The Amsterdam Museum is a museum in the center of the city that until not too long ago was known as the Amsterdam Historical Museum. In this museum visitors come to learn more about the past and development of the city.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a metropolis, but it is also known for being a small, friendly and idiosyncratic city. It is the city of artists such as Vermeer and Rembrandt, of Ajax (the football team), of the Red Light District, the historical United East India Company and known for legalized marijuana.

It is a fascinating 1000-year-old city, capital of the Netherlands, where certain pillar values have inspired and brought forward the city for centuries. Entrepreneurship, creativity, citizenship and freedom are the values that bring together the people that live in the Dutch capital. The Amsterdam Museum is a monument to this history and is a place with interesting and even interactive exhibitions that will teach you more about this special city.

The Museum

The Museum was inaugurated in 1926 and was re-located in 1975 into a structure that was originally built in the mid-16th century as the city’s orphanage. The museum holds various artefacts that tell the city’s history from the Middle Ages to today while many of the original furnishings belonging to the orphanage are also on display, with a special exhibition made for families with children in order to learn more about life in the orphanage.
