Half-Day Tour of Herculaneum from Sorrento with Private Driver

After pickup from your hotel, the port or designated meeting point in Sorrento at 9am, you'll head to Herculaneum to visit this ancient town, one of the lesser-known towns covered by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE. The drive will take approximately 1 hour and before you arrive, you'll have the chance to view the ancient town from a spot above the ruins above before heading down to the site.

Upon arrival, you'll purchase your ticket (at own expense) and have 2 hours to walk through the archaeological site on a self-guided tour to see the many buildings that have been preserved for centuries, until its discovery in 1709. The buildings have been so well preserved that you can walk down the streets pretty much exactly as at the roman time more than 2,000 years ago. Discover original timbers showing in the buildings and clay pots stored as they would have been at the time of the eruption. There are still well-preserved skeletons in Herculaneum, but it was believed that many of the inhabitants of the town managed to successfully flee, unlike those not so fortunate in the rival site - Pompeii.

Exploring will allow you to see the most important points of interest, including the public baths with their frescoes and mosaics, the shops, the gymnasium and much more. At the end of your time here at one of the world's best-preserved examples of a Roman residential town, you'll board your private vehicle for your return to the original departure point around 1pm.
